Don’t miss Illinois Humanities’ Road Scholar, Connie Martin, as she shares her family’s harrowing tales of life as slaves—the danger, the escape routes and how hand sewn quilts were used as a secret messaging system along the Underground Railroad—all revealed in a family Bible from 1865! She’ll also have on view over a dozen beautifully hand-crafted quilt replicas demonstrating the codes that were used. Join us for this intriguing talk exploring the road to freedom through Illinois.
